Dr Alex Whittaker was awarded the Chorley Award for Postgraduate Research 2008 for the paper “Whittaker, A.C., P. A. Cowie, M. Attal, G. E. Tucker and G. P. Roberts, Bedrock channel adjustment to tec-tonic forcing: Implications for predicting river inci-sion rates, Geology, 35(2), 103-106, 2007.”This paper presents a definitive and well-constrained field example (from central Italy) of a bedrock river undergoing a transient response to a change in the rate of base level fall. The paper has wider impact providing information on how rivers adjust to fault movement, which is vital for understanding the development of source areas for sedimentary basins.
