BSG Funding OpportunitiesResearch GrantsGrants of up to £1,000 are available to non-postgraduate members of BSG to finance or contribute towards small projects or specific costs of research e.g. travel for research, costs of dating or small pilot projects. Preference may be given to applications for funding that can clearly lead to a large grant application to, for example, a Research Council or other major funding agency. If competition for grants is strong, preference will likewise be given to early career researchers. Deadlines: 30 September and 31 March. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Postgraduate Research FundsGrants of up to £500 are available to all postgraduate BSG members registered for a higher research degree, to support students who do not receive full funding or where an additional opportunity to add value to an existing PhD programme has arisen (e.g. new data available, invitation to visit an overseas laboratory). In the case of students who do not receive full funding, it is normally expected that BSG postgraduate research funds will be awarded to match support from the student's Department or from other sources (that is, BSG postgraduate research funds are not normally a substitute for the support that other funding sources or the student's Department should be providing (even for 'self-funded' students)). The administrative source of that matching funding (e.g., the Head of Department) must state that any BSG funding is being matched. 'Adding value' to an existing programme means that the BSG can provide support to, for example, a funded PhD programme when an opportunity to increase the value of the research arises which was not recognised or available when the funded research budget was set. The ways in which BSG funding will add value to a funded research programme must be clearly spelled out by the applicant. Deadlines: 30 September and 31 March. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Postgraduate Conference FundGrants of up to £500 are available to assist postgraduate BSG members in presenting a paper or poster at a conference, and are intended to cover part of the total cost of registration, accommodation and travel. Students without research council funding or equivalent are particularly encouraged to apply. Deadlines: 30 September and 31 March. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Fixed-Term Working GroupsFunds of £250 per year for three years are available for members wishing to establish fixed-term working groups to discuss and take forward specific developments or topic areas within geomorphology. These will normally be areas in which rapid developments are taking place or in which key issues are arising which would be aided by increased communication between a small community of interested researchers. Deadline 1 November. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Long Term Geomorphological MonitoringFunds of up to £200 per year (for at least 10 years) are available for individuals to set up and maintain long-term geomorphological monitoring sites. Deadline 1 November. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Geomorphology in SchoolsGrants of up to £500 are available to support projects involving school teachers and pupils that will raise the profile of geomorphology in schools. Deadlines: 30 September and 31 March. Guidelines and application forms (in Word and PDF formats) can be found here Task Forces to Develop Proposals for Major Research ProjectsFunds of up to £1,000 are available to support the establishment of Working Groups to undertake the preliminary work required to develop proposals for Research Council thematic programmes.
