We are sad to report the death, on 20th January 2012, of Hanna Bremer. A great friend of the BSG for many years, Hanna was Professor in the Geographisches Institut der Universität zu Köln from 1972 until her retirement in 1993. She was also for many years the editor of the Zeitschrift für Geomorphologie.

Hanna studied geography, geology and physics at the Universität Göttingen and then completed her doctoral dissertation on ‘Flusserosion an der oberen Weser’ at the same institution. She made major research contributions to the study of tropical geomorphology, resulting in publications including Boden und Relief in den Tropen (1995) and Die Tropen (1999). Hanna was also an enthusiastic supporter of international cooperation and understanding in geomorphology, and was made an Honorary fellow of the International Association of Geomorphologists in 1993 and an Honorary Corresponding Member of the Royal Geographical Society in 1994.
