Executive Committee
The British Society for Geomorphology is led by a President, and managed by the Executive Committee that consists of the Chair, Deputy-Chair, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, three Vice-Chairs (who chair the three subcommittees for Research, Publications and Outreach), and three Ordinary Secretaries (secretaries for each of the subcommittees). The postgraduate members are represented by one or more of the three elected postgraduate representatives at Executive meetings. The Executive is responsible for the running of the Society, and if you wish to get involved please get in touch. Professor Viles is currently Acting Chair of the Society.
more info »Research - Sub Committee
Research Sub-Committee drives the research missions of the BSG. It co-ordinates the programme of meetings, conference sponsorship, research grants and awards administered by the Society. It makes recommendations on the award of Society grants. It also makes recommendations following the nomination of candidates for the Linton, Gordon Warwick and Dick Chorley Medals. It recommends the recipient of the Wiley-Blackwell Award in association with the Editorial Board of Earth Surface Processes and Landforms.

The Publications Sub-Committee is responsible for all official Society publications and outputs. It is responsible for promoting Earth Surface Processes and Landforms and society liaison with Wiley-Blackwell Publishers. The Publications Sub-Committee is also responsible for the production of the society member’s journal, Geophemera, management of the production of Geomorphological Techniques, and all forms of marketing and publicity for the BSG, including the website and social media.

The Outreach Sub-Committee drives the BSG towards it’s missions in reaching out to Educations, Industry and Lay audiences. It addresses issues relating to Education, marketing and publicity, Chartered status for geomorphologists (GGeog (Geomorph)) with the RGS, external relations, industry and community (wider audience) and professional matters. The Outreach sub-committee administers the award of the Annual ‘Marjorie Sweeting Prize’ for the best undergraduate dissertation at a British University.

Postgraduate members are vital to the success of the BSG, and this committee co-ordinates efforts of the Society towards postgraduate members. The Committee is chaired by the Deputy Chair of the Society and comprises three elected postgraduate members. Election of postgraduates is typically for a 3 year term, with the ballot either at the Postgraduate Symposium or at the BSG Annual Conference. One or more of the postgraduate representatives is entitled and encouraged to attend Executive Committee meetings of the Society. The remit of the Committee is to encourage and co-ordinate Postgraduate events (workshops, training courses, conferences) and to ensure the Society is meeting the need of the Postgraduate community.
